Right then, on to my number 2 “Top Trip” of 2017….(check out number 3 if you missed it) …….because a weekend in Paris is always a good idea.
How on earth does one even go about trying to describe Paris…….. the city that that we are repeatedly told is the most romantic in the world. The city we have fantasized about since we were old enough to appreciate fashion, champagne and a beautiful French accent. I had wanted to go for so long that I was almost worried it might not live up to my expectations – I needn’t have been…. it was spellbinding.
Exploring those most beautiful cobblestone streets with one of my oldest and treasured friends Jo (who is also a photographer – photo creds to her) it literally felt like stepping in to a Sex and the City episode. The place is just so breathtaking, I can’t even think of a better word…. you could just simply stop at each and every corner and find something that grabs your attention, and that is pretty much what we did for the entire weekend.
We stayed in a delightful little apartment, Les Toit Des Paris (http://www.chambrehotesparis.fr) in the 15th arrondissement. Our host Matthieu was friendly and helpful, amending our itinerary slightly so that we could see and do as much as we could in the time that we had, he also made a pretty mean continental breakfast. Navigating the city was easy enough (thank God for flat shoes though) with the Metro being both simple and cost effective. We chose to start out at the ridiculously photogenic Montmartre (I have a thing for rows of coloured houses) and then worked our way back down through the very interesting Pigalle, home to the Moulin Rouge, followed by the shop filled streets of Le Marais all the way to the Notre Dame. It was a lot of walking, but should you get tired there are an abundance of quaint cafes and bars on every single street, in fact there are so many that choosing becomes increasingly difficult. But the coffee, ummmmmmmmmmm the coffee!! In fact, everything we consumed in Paris was delicious, including the wine! It just seems to taste better when you’re sitting in a fairy lit bar by the river Seine, listening to live music and watching the sun set – don’t ask me why?!
On our deuxième jour (check me out) we paid a visit to the Trocadero and the Eiffel Tower, because let’s face it, if you didn’t get a photo with the Eiffel Tower did you even go to Paris? It was an unbelievable place to take pictures, even if we did have to wait our turn due to the copious amount of fashion bloggers looking to get their perfect shot 😉 . I don’t think I had every really appreciated just how big and beautiful a structure it is. Photographs just cannot do it justice. If seeing it for yourself isn’t on your bucket list already, I implore you to add it right this second. Brunch and yet another coffee later it was time for us to head back to the airport. Only spending a day and a half here kind of feels like a crime…. it deserves so much more and there are many things we missed. But you know what, that’s the perfect reason for us to return. My love affair with Paris does not end here……..
I hope you’ve enjoyed the photos as much as we enjoyed taking them. And as Audrey Hepburn once said……… Paris is ALWAYS a good idea.
Beth Anne xoxo
