Somehow, it’s December (HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?) And just like that, we are very much counting down to Christmas. Now, it may look a little different this year, but even with more and more of us turning to online shopping, it’s impossible to ignore just how much waste will occur during the festive season. For my Green is the New Black Series I’m going to be highlighting some incredible eco friendly alternative gift ideas for your family, friends, heck – why not treat yourself after this year?! First up…… I’m so very excited to have collaborated with an amazing online, UK based Company, Jungle Straws. Jungle Straws, since their inception, have been driven to help end the damage that single-use plastic causes to our environment. They have an absolutely beautiful range of earth friendly products ranging from bamboo straws to coconut bowls. Having just moved home, I’ve really started to think about making my kitchen a more eco friendly zone. And thanks to Jungle Straws I’m well on my way to decking it out in gorgeous zero waste style.
Bamboo Straws
Jungle Straws bamboo straws are fully biodegradable, 100% organic and non toxic. They are grown and handcrafted in rural Vietnam by local artisans at a small, family run, farm. These straws use the entire bamboo stalk in production, ensuring that there is zero waste. They’re also pretty cute too. Now maybe you’re thinking that you have no real use for a bamboo straw at home? Maybe you only use a drinking straw when you go out (what is going out again?) Well, each bamboo straw from Jungle Straws comes with it’s own hessian pouch – you can even choose the colour. And you get a little cleaning brush too. So when you’re off to the pub or out and about you can simply pop it in your handbag and you’re good to go. No more soggy paper straws for you and I guarantee that everyone will be asking where you got your gorgeous reusable straw from.
Coconut Bowls
I’ve been a big fan of coconut bowls for a few years now. They look great, they’re super durable and of course, they’re eco friendly. It has to be said that the coconut bowls from Jungle Straws are the nicest ones I’ve come across. Each bowl is individually crafted and and they are available in a selection of beautiful etched patterns. The bowls are also made in Vietnam and they allow local farmers to earn a secondary income after harvesting the coconuts for milk and oils. By turning the shells in to bowls, it also means that less coconuts and trees are simply being burned needlessly as waste. So if you love making those aesthetically pleasing smoothie bowls for your Instagram feed, or if you’re just looking for a greener way to eat your cereal, these coconut bowls could be right up your street. I can’t wait to display them on my new kitchen shelves, they’re just the perfect boho vibes.
So if you’re looking for the perfect gift for an eco friendly warrior or wannabe, I can’t recommend Jungle Straws enough. They also have a few other products available, such as bamboo cutlery and bamboo razors. I have not sampled those items but I can vouch for the fact that they look amazing and if the quality of the straws and coconut bowls are anything to go by, I’m certain they will be fabulous. So what are you waiting for? Go and check them out and support an incredible UK company who are doing important and wonderful things.
Thanks for being here,
Beth Anne xoxo
