Hey Big Ballers, I can’t tell you how excited I was to be invited to the press/launch night for the new Roxy Ballroom at the Cornerhouse in Nottingham. The home of booze and ball games – what’s not to like? And as soon as I saw the neon “Get Your Balls Wet” sign, I knew it was probably going to be a place that I could get on board with 😆.
The Vibe
Let’s talk about how it looks…….. pretty freakin’ amazing. If you love neon and funky wall art, this is absolutely gonna be your place. It’s such a bright and fun environment, I’m certain it would be pretty tough to NOT have a good time here. Plus, there’s loads of space, for both the gaming and also just for sitting, socialising, eating and/or drinking. I was worried it might feel a bit cramped in these here Covid times; but it wasn’t at all. That aside, there are a lot of steps on entry (there is of course a lift available for disabled entry), so bear that in mind when choosing your footwear and your alcohol intake. Oh and if you do wear heels, you will be asked to switch to bowling shoes (kindly provided) when playing certain games.
The Ball Games
You have a whole heap of gaming options to choose from and the costs vary from £8 to £15 per hour depending on what you’re playing and whether it’s peak or off peak times. Take your pick from the following………
- Bowling (This was so much fun, and I won so that’s why this is top of the list)
- Duck Pin Bowling
- Pool
- Shuffleboard
- Bocce
- Ice Curling
- Crazy Pool
- Ping Pong
You also have the optional extra of Beer Pong, and I’m talking 4 way Beer Pong – DANGER, DANGER! You get to choose from either Red Stripe or Cider as your poison. This costs £18 for the hour 🍺.
What If I don’t like playing with balls?
Say no more, I got you…… whilst it wasn’t open on the pre-launch night (boooooooo), Roxy Ballroom has a Karaoke room which you and your pals can rent out by the hour for between £24 and £30. There is nothing I don’t like about this. I love to sing and I love it even more if I can do it with my friends, after cocktails.
The Food & Booze
I’m not sure what the full menu will be now that Roxy Ballroom is well and truly open for business, but I can tell you that the munchies we sampled were AMAZING. A selection of delicious pizzas which you can order by the slice, I think ours was topped with sausage and red onion, deep fried Mac n Cheese sticks (I know, whaaaaaaaat), Chorizo sausages with chipotle mayo and fries. It was all so delicious and honestly much better than I would expect from a “ball room”/nightclub kind of establishment. Whatever you order, you won’t be disappointed and I love the idea of just having so many nibbly bits in between games.
The drinks menu at Roxys is impressive and features both classic and signature cocktails, which did look fabulous. I was driving unfortunately, so I made do with a cider and a Diet Coke. But on my boozy return I will definitely be sampling a Ping Star Martini and a Peanut Butter and Jelly shot.
The Overall Verdict
We seriously had such a brilliant evening here at Roxy Ballroom. It was actually the first proper “night out” I’ve had since pre Lockdown 1 and what a fun way to spend time with those we love and have missed. I would absolutely recommend it and if you aren’t lucky enough to be in the wondrous city of Nottingham, there are Roxy venues all up and down the country and you can book your spot right here
Thanks for invite and a great night, The Relationship and Roxy Ballroom.
This was a gifted experience but all opinions are my own.
